MJ Cole and AJ Tracey have teamed up for explosive summer banger ‘The Rumble’, released on MJ Cole’s new label 892.
Bringing together Cole’s futuristic, bass-heavy production, evoking a sweltering urban dystopia, with Tracey’s kaleidoscopic wordplay and crystal-clear delivery, ‘The Rumble’ is not just a meeting between one of the UK’s most revered club figureheads and one of its most exciting rising stars, but an urgent contemporary anthem for 2016 London.
AJ Tracey: "This track is really about where I'm from, my city and trying to capture that in the track. The everyday things I go through as an artist, and as someone living in London"
MJ Cole: "My feet sensed the rumblings from the Underground and I knew AJ Tracey was coming through. We hooked up in the studio at the start of 2016 and he laid down the idea on Scarface Riddim which I made with him in mind. The Rumble is a slice of London, the energy of now, a fusion of all that is exciting in the UK for us. We’re proud of this record and are excited to release is on the brand new 892 Recordings."
A Royal College of Music graduate and classically trained multi-instrumentalist, London-born MJ Cole has released some of the most important UK dance records of past decades. His intricate, heart-wrenching productions have linked the abstract, avant-garde tendencies of garage with crossover success and critical recognition, embodied in the era-defining, Mercury and BRIT nominated and MOBO-winning album ‘Sincere’ in 2000 followed by several unique, genre-spanning records on his own Prolific Recordings label, alongside lending his production skills to records by Dizzee Rascal, Wiley and Mary J Blige.
Recent singles ‘Bouldaz’ on Disclosure’s Method White label in late 2015 and ‘Alcatraz’ on Redlight’s regarded Lobster Boy Records in 2016 pointed towards a newfound rawness in his sound as well as the promise of further new music ahead.
West London’s AJ Tracey is one of the brightest and most talked-about talents to emerge from the UK’s buzzing grime underground. A string of releases including breakthrough and critically acclaimed EPs The Front and Alex Moran in 2015 to 2016’s show-stopping ‘Thiago Silva’ single have seen him championed by everyone from FACT Magazine, The Fader and Noisey to BBC Radio, Rinse FM and Beats 1, remaining true to the heritage and spirit of the scene whilst exhibiting a cutting-edge sound and versatility like no one else.
