Ferry Corsten will be returning to Ministry of Sound on Friday 6th May for the first date in his What the F world tour. The show will see him perform all night long in The Box, DJing under his Ferry Corsten, System F, and Gouryella aliases in what will be an unmissable night for Ferry fans.

Ahead of his world tour, we called up Ferry to talk inspiration, history, and of course, What the F.

MoS: Where are you in the world right now?

Ferry Corsten: I’m in the Netherlands right now enjoying the amazing spring weather!

What was the last club you played at and which country was it in?

Funny enough, it was in the Netherlands, on a beach. It was for the opening of a beach club. The weather was great the week before and we were expecting an amazing warm day… only to get a news report that the weekend of 1st April would probably bring snow… and it wasn’t an April Fool’s Day joke! I did get worried for a while since it was on the beach, but thankfully, the place was warm, packed, and it was a really great show and vibe. The sunset was amazing. It was absolutely fantastic to be behind the decks again.

Where did it all begin with your music career? and how did you get into the music industry?

I’ve always had a passion for music. I never went to music school and I learned everything from the ground up (and continue to do so). Curiosity got the better of me and I read every manual, watched videos about various software and synths, I nerded out on sounds, samples, and of course beats. My music got signed at an early age and I’ve been lucky enough to make a career out of it. I’m blessed.

What do you love about being a DJ and what do you love about being a Producer?

I was first a music producer before I became a DJ. I’ve heard from some colleagues in the past that when I make music, the whole song is in my head and sometimes I just have to extract the entire thing out and write/produce it. I was given the opportunity to DJ because of my musical creations, so I was really lucky that I have been able to play my own music as a DJ from the get-go.

Who has inspired you musically?

As you may know, I have a thing for melodies, and I love all kinds of melodic, sometimes melancholy music. Artists such as Hans Zimmer, 80/90’s music in general.

What would you say was the golden moment in your career?

I can never refute that the track "Out of the Blue” which was released a long time ago was a game-changer for me. It allowed me to start touring worldwide. However, with my current project ‘What the F tour’ which will allow me to remix, rehash, and reinvent my music into something new along with my upcoming releases… is honestly pretty cool as well!

What are you most looking forward to with your ‘WHAT THE F’ tour?

I’m excited for people to hear the music I plan to release later in the year. I pride myself as a musical producer to make various genres of music that, since it all comes from the same mind, work together in a set. I’ve been working on special treats for the show. I can’t wait for you guys to be there to experience it and get into the musical mind of Ferry Corsten.

You’ll be playing all night long under different aliases which includes Gouryella, System F, and more, but which alias are you most excited to play under?

That’s the fun part, you’ll understand which one is most important at the end of the night… because they all will be!

When was the first time you played in The Box at Ministry of Sound and what made it so special?

The first time, I can’t really remember the date, but I do have a long history with Ministry of Sound as well as releases and compilations in the past. This is why this brand is special to me.

Finally... What can you promise fans ahead of your set on Friday 6th May?

Get ready for a rollercoaster ride of your life, in terms of sounds. I’ve been working very hard to put this together and I can’t wait to share it with you all.
