Ahead of 20 Years of Spinnin' Records on Saturday 6th July, we talk to one of the label's brightest new stars, Deepend.

Hi Deepend, where in the world are you currently and what was the last gig that you played?

Deepend: Hey hey, I’m currently in London to see Eric Prydz and his HOLO show, and I just played Emporium Festival in The Netherlands.

We’ve already seen some brilliant singles from you this year, but what do you have in store for us?

My next single will be a collab with my friends Lucas & Steve. We both grew up in the South of The Netherlands, and our careers started around the same time. We always had the idea to do a collab, and now it’s finally happening. The track is called "Long Way Home" and will be released on Spinnin’ Records on 13th June. I also just finished a remix for Robin Schulz that will be out soon!

You’re instantly recognisable by your uplifting and light melodies, but was it always your mission to spread this feel-good spirit with your music?

Yes, I love the uplifting feel that certain chord progressions and melodies can give me. This kind of music makes me super happy, and that’s what I want to share with the world.

The last year has seen you perform all over Europe, but do you have a favourite city to play? Why would you say this one?

I really enjoyed playing my debut in Krakow Poland last year. I didn’t know what to expect, but the crowd went completely crazy haha. I loved every second of my set. I also love to play in Ibiza during the summer, the people are always in the mood for a proper party.

If you weren’t a successful DJ, what would you be doing? Was there a back-up plan or was music always the only option?

I would definitely be an entrepreneur. I’m not sure what kind of business, but I graduated as Civil Engineer so maybe something in that direction.

What makes a performance from Deepend different to anything else? What do you consider your secret weapons?

It’s always about good vibes and positive energy during my sets.

The last time you were at Ministry of Sound was a few years ago now, how have your live sets changed since then?

I developed as a person and as a producer over the past years. My sound has gone a bit more uplifting and energetic. I also went on tour with David Guetta last year, which was a great experience for me to play bigger crowds and stadiums, so I definitely got more comfortable behind the decks.

Do you get much time to explore new music yourself? Who are your favourites at the moment?

I just started my own radio show, which is a perfect opportunity to discover new music and artists. I really love Fisher’s new track "You Little Beauty" at the moment and Meduza – "Piece Of Your Heart".

The line-up for Spinnin’s show in London looks incredible, who are you most excited to be playing alongside?

I’m really excited to play alongside my buddy Jack Wins. We’ve worked on some music over the past years, and I’m really looking forward to see him again.

For the fans that have already got their tickets for the 6th July, what can they expect from you? Any surprises up your sleeve? And what can you say to fans thinking of heading down?

Expect a lot of new music! I’m currently finishing some very cool club tracks that will be premiered during my set. I will also debut my brand new visuals during the show!

Deepend will join Danny Avila, Tom Staar and Jack Wins for 20 Years of Spinnin' on 6th July, get tickets & more info here.
