As we gear up for another amazing week at IMS 2019, we caught up with an Ibizan native who will be playing a major role throughout the conference. Anna Tur is known to many dance music fans as a long-running presenter and creative visionary at Ibiza Global Radio.

She has also been developing a reputation as a skilled selector and will be playing at the IMS Closing Party at Dalt Vila where she'll be going B2B with Manu Gonzales. Ahead of that huge performance, we caught up with Anna to find out more about growing up Ibiza.

MoS: It must’ve been amazing growing up in Ibiza – what are some of your earliest memories of the scene?

Anna Tur: I remember all of the big billboards with amazing designs; I was always blown away when I was in the car with my family on the road. I remember the classic parades that used to happen sometimes while I was around the port, eating ice cream and watching the magical performances. Also when I was a teenager, I used to visit the radio studio (which was Cadena 100 Ibiza) in the '90s, when my dad with David Moreno and Igor Marijuan started to program electronic music for the channel. It was an amazing time.

When did you decide you wanted to be a DJ and what was the event that made commit fully to the career? Did you ever have any other career ambitions?

I started playing a long time ago, but I was really sure to start in the professional way when I saw Luciano for the first time playing on the beach, at the first-ever Ushuaia beach around 10 years ago.

What are some of Ibiza’s lesser-known spots for continuing the party after the clubs have closed?

It´s a secret, I will tell you in private!

Where should Ministry of Sound readers hit up for some amazing food while they’re at IMS?

Ibiza is a magical place for gastronomy. We have our typical cuisine, ibicenco cuisine based on fish, meat with super delicious combinations. “Arroz a Banda”, “Guisat de Peix”, “pa amb sobrasada”…  Deserts such as graixonera, flaò, orelletes… I really recommend Can Pau, Cas Pagès, Es Caliu, Balafia, Yemanja… and for sure, you can find international food in really good different places around the island.

You’ll be teaming up with Manu Gonzales for a B2B at the incredible Dalt Vila, what can we expect from the set?

Wow. I can wait for that. Manu and I have been friends for a long time, we have played B2B in the past, so I’m sure we will make the perfect team to make sure people dance and enjoy themselves!

Will you be performing at any other events during the IMS week?

Yes, the 25th of May with Vagabundos at Fabric Madrid.

IMS is seen as the official starting horn for the Ibiza season – what does this summer have in store for you? Where can we see you in Ibiza and beyond this summer?

I will be playing at some amazing festivals, I will also be collaborating with some big promoters but I can’t say much right now!

You have been a key member on Ibiza Global Radio for over a decade, can you tell us about how you first got involved with the station and how the station has evolved over the years?

Well, my dad founded it in 2004 and since then it has been my baby, my passion, I’m continuing with the family radio roots. We started it as a test, in a small studio in Ibiza Town and then we jumped to San Antonio Road. We had magical moments there, the radio was growing quickly and our space was limited. We worked really hard and with infinite passion which I’m sure we transmitted to the audience, to big names and promoters… this magical feeling was the way for new success, something was happening, Ibiza Global Radio started to be an international media platform. It was the first 24/7 non-stop electronic underground music station and we have nowadays around 7 million listeners per month. Now it’s part of a media group, so we have more synergies and structure than in the past, which is good because we still have the same dream, passion and philosophy.

You’re an accomplished interviewer, having had all the biggest names in dance music on your show over the years. If you were going to host a DJ dinner party – which 5 artists would you invite?

Haha… that’s a difficult question and two of them I don’t know personally, but… Paco Osuna, Seth Troxler, Butch, Nicole Moudaber and Waff. All at the same table ;)))

Lastly, can you select some tracks that, for you, perfectly encapsulate Ibiza?

Kraftwerk - "The Model"

Octave One - "Black Water"

Starsailor – "Floor To The Floor"

Anna will play at the IMS Closing Party at Dalt Vila alongside Charlotte De Witte, Adam Beyer, Ida Engberg, Luciano, Nicole Moudaber and many more, get tickets & more info here.
