Kungs is back in Ministry of Sound this December for one final show of 2018. The French producer has been on fire these last few years with massive tunes such as 2016's "This Girl" and "Don't You Know" along with big releases this year including "Disco Night" and "Be Right Here".
Ahead of his triumphant return, we called him up for a quick chat about his year, the new Disco Night concept and his favourite new artists.
MoS: Hey! How’s it going? Has this year been as busy for you as the last two?
Kungs: Good, thanks! This year has been crazier, busier, the most exciting yet!
Can you tell us a bit about your meteoric journey in the years since "This Girl"?
It’s all been a bit of a whirlwind, I can’t believe just how fast everything has gone! A lot of time on planes, travelling and seeing all my amazing fans, working with some amazing artists and of course, starting work on album number two!
Are there any countries or festivals that you still can’t believe you’ve been able to perform at?
Dubai. I got to play a solo show there and it was just unbelievable! And Tomorrowland, that was one off the checklist for me!
You were just 19 when you exploded onto the scene in 2016. Have you got your eye on any young producers and DJs coming up at the moment?
Tony Romera and GOLDN!
With the recent release of "Disco Night", can you give us a few tunes that have inspired the track and how has it been received playing this out live?
I’m inspired by a lot of Daft Punk, which I think you can guess from the Robo-style vocals we put on that track! It’s been getting a great reception and is definitely one for the dancefloor!
"Disco Night" was co-made with another name on the line-up, Throttle. How excited are you to have him join you at Ministry and how was the collab?
I’m so excited! I’ve been really into what he’s doing for a while now and he was so much fun to work with in the studio, I always find that other side to an artist interesting.
Have you got any upcoming releases or projects you plan on showcasing at the night?
You will have to come and dance with us, to find out!
How excited are you to return to Ministry of Sound with a hand-picked showcase of DJs and can you tell us what the ‘Disco Nights’ concept is all about?
We named it Disco Nights because of my recent single, but really because it will be a night to remember with some of my favourite artists! Throttle will bring the big-room, Watermat will take things a little deeper and Zonderling will bring that high energy! A good mix from everyone and we may have some special surprises...
What current tracks are you enjoying the most at the minute?
Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa – "One Kiss" (R3hab Remix) and Loud Luxury - "Body", still sounding so good!
Finally, fans have been wanting you to get back to Ministry of Sound since you smashed it back in February. What can they expect this time around?
That is so exciting! Well the main difference is the eclectic line-up that I’ve curated, it’s the first time we’ve all played together on a single club line-up like this – new edits, our favourite tracks and a big end of year party is on the agenda! See you soon Ministry!
Kungs will headline on Saturday 15th December, get tickets & more info here.
