Innovation
The multi award winning ‘Innovation’ brand has been at the forefront of the D&B scene for over 14 years and well respected for coming at things from a different angle and pioneering new ideas for the clubbing experience. ‘Innovation’ has taken the D&B sound across the UK, to Germany, Tenerife and most famously to Spain & Amsterdam with their ‘In The Sun’ & ‘In The Dam’ clubbing holidays... it only now seems right that they expand across the World via the airwaves on Ministry of Sound Radio!!
The shows two main hosts on rotation are DJ Ollie & Grimey but expect the odd guest host here and there to keep things interesting.
Having got into the dance scene in the early 90's, DJ Ollie started landing his first proper bookings around 1994 when the rave sound was developing into what we now know as Drum & Bass. After gaining his first major residency at the legendary Pure Science night at Maidstone’s Atomics, it wasn’t long before was stepping up to grace the decks of nights such as One Nation & Movement.
Over the years DJ Ollie’s skills have been in regular demand across London, the South-East of England and as far afield as Spain, Germany, Holland, Slovenia and the Greek Islands. His versatility and experience render him available to play all styles of Drum & Bass and have seen him play upfront, old skool, jungle and liquid sets for a host of distinguished promoters including AWOL, Def:Inition, Breakin Science, Devotion, Best of British, Breakology, Liquid Sessions, Heat, Bassment, Lowdown, Random Concept, Battle of the MC’s, High on Life, Ravenation, and of course gain him a residency with award-winning promoters Innovation.
Grimey is the first to admit his introduction to Drum & Bass came later than most, breakbeats finally taking over his life in 2002. A hunger to further his development saw a move to London in 2006, within a few months finding himself hand selected by Bailey to go back to back with the man himself at the Ministry of Sound after making the final cut in a competition run by Drum & Bass Arena.
2007 witnessed a major breakthrough, Grimey making the final four of a nationwide DJ competition following his selection by a panel of 1Xtra’s resident DJ’s. After two live sets at the BBC, he exercised suitable composure to win the public vote twice over and go on tour with 1Xtra for their XtraBass festival, a notable accolade in a scene that gives so little reward to its up and comers. With the fresh backing of 1Xtra, he spent the rest of 2007 DJing regularly in every corner of the UK, also gaining vital first experience abroad in the Czech Republic.
The turn of 2008 witnessed the next important step up as Grimey joined the formidable Innovation roster as resident DJ.
