What was your first experience of Ministry of Sound? My first experience was back in 1992 with the whole Leeds "Up Yer Ronson" crew showing down south how it’s done up north:-)
How did the Wax Da Beach album come about with Ministry of Sound? Really it was an idea that we have building towards for the last few years and when discussions started, the MoS connection seem the perfect home for us to bring beach vibe to the world.
Can you tell us a little about the album? The album is a mix of old & new music plus music from our crew and artist roster, some unreleased exclusives as well. I wanted give the vibe of the sound system on the beach, it's not ambient or even the so called chill out. It's more roots vibes and grooves, with that twist of sonic sunshine:-)
What makes Wax Da Beach so special and different from other parties in Ibiza? First and foremost the music! Then are crew and the energy we bring, we represent the good life - feeling good through music - On the beach bringing unique sounds with live musicians with DJ's and Mc's. Kind of my musical background, but in paradise in the sun!
How would you describe your musical style? Feel good music, I really feel that is true expression of music I play. Everyone has a sovereign right to feel good and my aim is to add to that.
Do your parents like your music? Of course!!! My mum's my biggest fan. I believe lots of people have become parents through my music :-)))))
What's your most favourite memory from a Wax Da Beach party in Ibiza? Wow! That really is a tough one, as they have all been different, as we improvise in the same manner as we do at our club event Wax Da Jam, so anything goes. So sometimes then moments happen & we're all one Dj's - Band - People - That is what it’s about, becoming one!
You've lived in Ibiza for over 5 years now, can you give us a recommendation of somewhere special to check out? Well my favourite beach to go and connect with the energy here is Cala d'hort beach, which is the only open beach that is located directly opposite Es Vedra, which is the 3rd most magnetic place on the planet, so at some point in the summer and even after the summer it's just good to go and connect there. There is also a great fish restaurant there called Es Carmen
Warp was kind of where it all started for you, did you ever imagine the label would still be going strong near on 20 + years? I don't think that was ever on our minds when we started out, that question of how long things would last or go on for? We we're and still are on a creative adventure, finding what we can do, and executing ideas. But to reflect now, it's a phenomenal achievement! I'm as proud as Warp are, in the story that is been created.
Are you working with / collaborating with anyone at the moment? Right now I'm working on my 7th long player soon to be release on Warp. I have done some work with an amazing artist called Katie Gray from Texas, Mozez of Zero 7 fame who also featured in my "In A Space Outta Sound" album. A few tracks with my longterm pianist & good friend Robin Taylor-Firth, and few other things that I will keep under my hat for now:-)
What you most looking forward to this summer in Ibiza? Wax Da Jam & Wax Da Beach with Daddy G (Massive Attack), Bonobo, Ashley Beedle. Jamming with my Crew Negghead, Shovell, Wolfgang, Paul Powell & some our very exclusive Villa Jams we'll be doing that always bring surprises.
