Everything you missed from the world of dance music this weekend
Dixon Blew The Roof Off Ministry of Sound
Monday morning was even more brutal than usual for us at Ministry HQ as we had 5 time Resident Advisor No.1 DJ, Dixon, laying down beats in our main room until 2AM this morning. Photos are incoming, but it was a huge night and one that we'll be looking back on fondly. Dixon lived up to his rep and kept the sold out in a state of constant dancing for the duration of his 9 hour set, an early highlight of 2017.
Original Pirate Material Turned 15
The Streets' iconic debut, Original Pirate Material, turned 15 years old on Saturday. A huge celebration was planned at Brixton's Ritzy Cinema. The album made it into our Top 25 Dance Music Albums of all time last year. Pretty much everyone's been singing it's praises online, but the features by Fader and Dazed stand out among the best.
Ultra Music Festival Had A Lot Of Surprise Guests
This weekend saw the culmination of Miami Music Week with the blowout to end all blowouts, Ultra Music Festival. The three day Miami monster saw just about everyone from the American Dance scene and a host of UK and European talent take to the decks. As usual there were some surprise appearances, with Chief Keef, 2Chainz, Ty Dolla $ign, O.T. Genesis and 1 Direction's Louis Tomlinson making guest appearances.
Better Lost Than Stupid Live On Essential Mix
Circo Loco heroes Davide Squillace Matthias Tazmann Martin Buttrich, joined forces to create Better Lost Than Stupid in 2011 at Electric Zoo Festival in New York. The three friends, and Circo Loco regulars, create a formidable B2B2B partnership. An album is apparently near completion and their debut tune, "Dynamite" was an Essential New Tune. The Essential Mix serves as an excellent introduction to techno's new supergroup, listen here.
