Someone’s been busy building bridges.
After nearly a decade of openly slagging each other off in public, avoiding each other and generally acting like a pair embittered exes, M.I.A has just posted this picture on Twitter.
Well well well. Time is indeed a great healer, and it seems that wounds have been licked dry enough for the once most promising couple in music to reunite.
After ‘Paper Planes’ won ‘Biggest International Earworm’ in 2008 (along with a host of other more seriously regarded awards) the M.I.A and Dip ended their romantic relationship.
In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine in 2015, M.I.A spoke of Diplo’s controlling nature: “he literally smashed my hotel room and broke all the furniture because he was so angry I got picked up by a major label”- which led to their break up.
After a period of not speaking which lasted for five years, a selfie wound up on Diplo’s Twitter last year- a sure sign that something was a brewing.
Despite chat from Diplo about him producing for M.I.A with Major Lazer, today M.I.A has followed up with news that Blaqstarr will join as a second producer on ‘Bird Song’, which is going to be unleashed on the 12th of August.
Will it be as addictive, ubiquitous and award winning as ‘Paper Planes’? Will it be more like a Diplo song, or an M.I.A song? We can’t wait to hear.
