Maybe €10 for a bottle of water is justified after all?
With stories of mass raids and canned air being sold to tourists for a fiver, the latest farce is that Ibiza might be running out of water.
Even before the season stated we were warned that water related crimes could result in fines - a supposed €750 was to be slapped on those caught drinking in the streets - however Ibiza’s tourism chief has spoken of a drain in more general resources.
In an interview with Pulse Radio, Vincent Torres (whose had his work cut out for him this summer) has said: “More people on the islands means more people consuming our resources (water, environment…) Nowadays we have nearly 100,000 legal touristic beds and a registered population of 13,000 inhabitants, approximately… we cannot support much more increase in tourism.”
Though tourist tax has been brought in to charge holiday makers by order of hotel quality, the numbers of visitors to the island has been relentless. Ibiza’s tourism board will soon release water saving initiatives, but for those determined to make Ibiza their big summer blow out, what are the chances that caution will be heeded?
