Don’t get us wrong, we love Pete Tong.
The man’s a living legend. His radio show has had our ears since its incarnation and his legacy in music has already been written- and he’s nowhere near finished. Mad respect aside, we can't hep but liftout eyebrows at the news that he’s getting involved in producing a new ‘EDM Movie’.
We’ve already had one EDM movie, and it was unanimously decided that 'We Are Your Friends' was a piece of badly executed cultural band-waggoning by Hollywood bosses and an age denying Zac Efron. A line was written underneath it, and we sat back to watch the rest of EDM culture come to a slow but grinding halt.
However, news has reached our inboxes that it’s not over til the fat lady sings. Or at least, until Pete Tong becomes the musical advisor of a Netflix series about the genre that's dug its claws into the cliffside and is refusing to fall. The film will be called 'XOXO' and has the girl from Modern Family in it. So far, so bizarre.
No more information has been released other than its IMDB plot description of “six strangers whose lives collide in one frenetic, dream-chasing, hopelessly romantic night”, which sounds like We Are Your Friends multiplied by four.
It's a surprise that Pete Tong's come on board. Perhaps he hasn't got much going on right now, which we highly doubt. More likely is that he'll knock this one out of the park so deftly that we'll wonder why we ever questioned his motives in the park.
Either way it airs on August Bank holiday, so we’ll likely be catching up with it as soon as we’ve caught up on three days’ worth of sleep.
