Everything that happened in dance music this weekend

London Clubs Breath A Sigh Of Relief As Sadiq Kahn Is Elected Mayor

We’re safe! (For now). As the UK counted in its votes this Friday, hot steppers throughout London crossed their fingers for a red wedding- which was granted in the form of Labour man Sadiq Kahn winning with a 56% innings. Kahn has promised to nurture London’s often ailing night time industries with a ‘Night Czar’, who’ll preside over evening proceedings in the capital. We welcome him down to Ministry of Sound any time - guestlist guaranteed.

McDonald's Continue Their Courtship Of Dance Fans With Bizarre Afrojack Advert

Just last week we brought you news of McDonald's introducing new music production placemats into their Netherlands branches. Now it seems their even more determined to corner the dutch dance dollar with a new Afrojack-featuring TV. In the ad Afrojack drops a clanger to a less than impressed Japanese crowd. He's understandably distraught, but it's OK as he's soon back in rainy Holland ordering a Big Mac and McFlurry to put a smile back on his face. While the ad's pretty strange, it's nice to know that even Afrojack isn't above the shame-filled morning after McDonalds.

Take A Tour Of Skrillex's Coachella House Party

Skillex's annual house party has become one of the most exclusive Coachella after parties, with a guestlist packed to the gills with celebrities. For the third year of his notorious house parties he decided to open up the list to include all'yall, with a behind the scenes video tour. Take a sneak peak with the video above featuring Zedd, Mr Carmack, D.R.A.M and Nina Las Vegas.

Ke$ha’s Going On Tour with Diplo

2016 has been a conveyor belt of shit news for pop star Ke$ha. After months of legal battling over allegations of sexual abuse, the singer has received the support of seemingly everyone except her record label. Offers of new collaborations came in from producers like Zedd and Jack Antonoff, with the former bringing her out on stage to perform during his Coachella set. It’s now been announced that Ke$ha will be performing on the 15 leg tour of Diplo’s Mad Decent Block Party, on a line-up that includes AlunaGeorge, Tiesto and Kaskade. Is now the time for Ke$ha to join the dance community? It’s certainly a more welcoming environment.

Deadmau5 Recieves Rare Twitter Love

On Friday Deadmau5 went on his most prolonged Twitter rant yet, taking aim at virtually everyone and everything in the American EDM scene. But over the weekend, things took a sunnier turn as a drunk Madeon took to Twitter to express his gratitude to Mau5 for giving him his start in dance music and mentoring him throughout the early years. After Mau5 posted the message, Sofi and REZZ also took to Twitter to voice their gratitude to Joel. It seems old DM isn't so bad after all.

No DJs In Billboards Highest Paid Artists List

Billboard have just released their annual list of the Top 40 Highest Paid musicians. Despite Calvin Harris being worth a reported $160m, the Billboard Top 40 features a grand total of zero dance music artists. The list is largely dominated by old acts such as The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac and Elton John that have been on stadium tours in the past year. The lack of a single electronic artist on the list could add further fuel to the claims that America is becoming disillusioned with EDM. It's not all bad news for Calvin though, as his girlfriend topped the list, raking in an eye watering $72.5m in the past year, so he knows who ask for a fiver next time he's picking up his daily dose of chicken.
