Find out how Joel went from a Bart Simpson-haired web developer to world famous DJ
Deadmau5 is the subject of a new 'Before They Were Famous' video by YouTuber, Michael McCrudden. The video charts Joel's early years of taking apart consumer electronics for fun in Niagara Falls to his yellow spiked raver days.
He then moved on to starting his own web development company and eventually working for music production software Fruity Loops. After that he made a house track with a friend as a joke, but the joke track quickly topped the Beatport chart and eventually his music was being championed by Pete Tong, he'd made his first Mau5head and so many people tried to vote for him in DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs Poll that the site crashed.
The video gives an eye-opening look at the journey Joel travelled to become one of the most recognisable names in dance music. Sure the video features a few musical missteps - 2007's Faxing Berlin definitely did not "propel the creation of the fostering the Dubstep sub-genre", but by and large it's essential watching for those with even a passing interest in Mau5y.
Deadmau5 himself has watched the video and even seemed to give it his blessing on his often-abusive Twitter.
