Ultra Music Festival is the unofficial kick off party for a year of big performances
It marks the end of hibernation for DJs who’ve spent the winter keeping fans interested with ‘in the studio’ Instagram posts and teaser clips of new material. It’s a time for the music community - fans and artists alike - to make their presence known in style.
Now that attendees have risen from sleeping off a weekend’s worth of raving, the pitter-patter of online chat has started: ranging from gossip, praise, and some sad news.
Garrix Stepping Up
After using a Twitter Q&A to suggest that new music was on its way, Martin Garrix pulled out what has been described as a “career defining” set, airing ten new tracks as he played the headline set on the 19th of March. New cuts included "Rewind Repeated", a collaboration with Ed Sheeran, proving that the gaps between pop and EDM are becoming ever smaller. Brew some opinions below.
Unusual Ending Music
Hit up Reddit after a major American event and you're bound to be some to-ing and fro-ing over an incident that’s got everyone’s goat. This year, there’s some back and forth about identifying the closing song. Is it NGHTMRE? Is it Paris Blohm? Answers on the back of a post card please. Actually, it's Reidar Korsbrekke, reddit should really learn how to read.
It’s a sad truth that the story that will dominate many news stories about Ultra is the death of one of its attendees. Adam Levine was a student at the University of Miami, and died from complications of a seizure, though it has not been confirmed whether this was caused by drug use or not.
