Britons Have Spent £2.1 Billion On Gigs And Festivals In 2015
Consumer analyst Mintel have today confirmed what we've long since suspected - festivals and live music events are more popular than ever in the UK. Music loving Brits have spent a combined £2.1 Billion on live music this year - that's a 45% increase on 2014. This news comes against a backdrop of shrinking revenues for recorded music and a seemingly never ended stream of venue closures. It's clear that more people than ever are willing to part with their hard earned cash to see their favourite artists live, so hopefully this will galvanise authorities to get serious about protecting our nighttime industries.
Stormzy Sets Sights On Christmas No.1
Without a doubt 2015 has been a massive year for grime. But it might just get even bigger if Sound London MC Stormzy gets his way. Over the weekend he tweeted a picture of the iTunes top 40 Chart (where his track "Shut Up" currently sits at No.27). He then called his fans and supporters to help get "Shut Up" to Christmas No.1. The lord of the mics is facing stiff competition from Justin Bieber, the NHS Choir and X-Factor winner Louisa Johnson, but with grime enjoying it's biggest surge in popularity in years, it seems like his goal could well be within reach.
"Shut Up" features in our SoundOf mix from BBK's DJ Maximum. Listen here.
EDM Has Been Widely Recognised In Billboards Hot 100 2015 List
David Guetta, Jack U, Major Lazer, Afrojack, Robin Schulz and Calvin Harris have all made it onto Billboards Hot 100 Tracks of the year. Somewhat bizarrely David Guetta also topped the Hottest Dance / Electronic Artist of the year, beating out Calvin Harris, DJ Snake and Major Lazer.
Swedish House Mafia And Alesso's Facebook Pages Have Been Hacked
Just a few months after Skrillex's official Facebook page was hacked, social media is proving problematic again as both Swedish House Mafia and Alesso had their pages hacked. Bizarrely both pages began posting links to lewd images of Miley Cyrus. It seems the hack was noticed fairly quickly and has since been rectified.
