Swedish House Mafia Reunion Teased

The return of the mafia is one of the most pined for announcements in dance music.

Don't you worry child, looks like a SHM reunion might not be impossible

This week we had possibly the strongest indication yet that much-loved big room trio, Swedish House Mafia, may yet reform. The reformation of the EDM supergroup is probably one of the most pined after announcements in dance music (aside from a new Daft Punk tour), but to fans and commenters alike it's seemed like there was as much chance of a reconciliation as there is Guns 'N' Roses reforming.

But, just weeks after rumours that Slash, Axel and Duff were in talks, it now seems that there could actually be the possibility of the Swedes putting the past behind them. This week, while premiering his latest solo track "Waiting For So Long" on Zane Lowe's Beats One show, the New Zealand broadcaster asked Axwell about the possibility of a SHM reunion.

Rather than shooting down the possibility as is usually the case when any of the trio are asked about the issue, Axwell instead responded that it's something "We think about it every now and then". It's unclear at the moment if he was referring to himself and Sebastian Ingrosso, who of course have continued to work together under the highly successful Axwell /\ Ingrosso project, or if he was referring to all three former members.

It's worth noting that in Leave The World Behind - the film that documented the band's final tour and subsequent split, it was fairly apparently that Steve Angello was the most vocal advocate for calling time on SHM. But with two whole years since their split, perhaps Steve has achieved what he was wanted to do with his label and solo career and is thus more open to reforming. Only time will tell, but for the meantime you can read Axwell's full statement on the matter below.

We think about it every now and then, you know what we left, what we did, what we’ve accomplished and everything; and how it would be to do something together again. But I think, the only thing is that time will tell pretty much. We have been blessed to be riding this wave, and just ahead of the wave for some time now, so you know we are able to do exactly what we want, which is a blessing. You know this song that we just played here, it was just like no thoughts, no need, no nothing, just music. Who knows what happens in the future, we might get a sudden urge to Swedish House Mafia it up again… who knows! - Axwell
