Ahead of his Gallery debut this Friday, Matthew Koma details five tracks which influence his feel good and emotive DJ sets.
Brandon Flowers - "Can't Deny My Love"
Matthew Koma: I always love how inventive Brandon's records are. He always pulls from influences that really resonate with me, but he truly has his own voice and perspective that defines him without being derivative, which is a hard thing to accomplish. This song feels like it's summertime and John Hughes is heart broken. I back it.
Ryan Adams covering "Summer Of '69" at the Ryman
Because Ryan Adams is covering "Summer Of ’69"; and it's fucking awesome.
Must Die! – "Together"
This song makes me want to put a ski mask on and fill water guns with hot sauce and harass people at 711 for free Slurpees. Isn't that when you know a song is good?!
Hopium - "Dreamers ft Phoebe Lou"
Something about this song haunts me. It's honest and sincere and I love the world it lives in. I keep coming back to it. Love the Kicks N Licks remix too.
Dawes - "Things Happen"
The best lyricist of our generation, period. Taking something simplistic and universal, yet effortlessly making it feel profound. Seeing them live feels like you're in on the the best kept secret no matter how large the crowd. It's magic and their new single is further proof that they're on a path to be one of the classics of our time. I can't say enough about these guys and Taylor's writing.
Matthew Koma will be making his Gallery debut supporting Nervo, this Friday 15th May, get your tickets here.
