It's a brave new world for reality TV shows, as Big Man Simon Cowell and Big Dogs Ultra Music Festival have announced that they're backing two of the latest "next best superstar DJ" competitions
Si-Cow's latest foray into plucking talent form nowhere partners with a weighty name in the EDM world, Yahoo. Entitled Ultimate DJ, the show has been likened to a worldwide sporting competition by bosses, who have done away with conventional voting techniques, choosing instead to pull in their numbers via blogging platform, Tumblr.
The winner will be awarded a contract with SyCo, where they'll be label mates with the likes of Labrinth and estranged One Direction star, Zayn Malik. (We were led to believe he was about to start a Magaluf residency, so who knows...)
It's not all rosy for the show, as potential judges could have included Fatboy Slim and Gorgon City, who both turned the slot down due to disagreements in the fact that "dance music can't be scripted", or whatever. Not one to be put off by rejection, Simon gleefully announced cake-chucking enigma Steve Aoki as the first celebrity judge who'll be joining him on the Ultimate DJ panel at a press conference earlier today.
Considering "Adagio For Strings" stands as a massive contradiction to the scripted nature of EDM, it's fitting that Tiesto is playing a major part in Ultimate DJ's American big brother, Your Shot. The 10 part Vevo series will feature 30 wannabe DJs competing in various production challenges before being given the chance to perform at Ultra Music Festival 2016. We're pretty sure the show's advert is an Urban Outfitters collaboration in disguise.
Registration for Your Shot has now closed, and Ultimate DJ's audition process has yet to be announced, though we're not entirely sure how it'll match up to The X Factor's heart string tugging annual rigmarole.
