Simon Patterson will be headlining the first Gallery party of 2015, this Friday 23rd January, we caught up with him before the big event
Hi Simon, how are you doing?
I'm good. Thanks. It's been a very busy few months travelling and moving to America, but Open Up 100 has been the main focus so we're all grateful for how big it's been and all the support from the fans.
How did you see in 2015?
With John Askew at Open Up 100 in Toronto. It was very poignant for me considering it was the 100th party and that John was there as he is the creator and without him we wouldn't be here.
Friday celebrates 100 episodes of your Open Up radio show. Congrats on reaching this milestone, how did the concept first come about?
John and the team. The concept was to go underground while everyone went mainstream and be different. Thankfully we found a niche and all credit to the team, without them - John, Carl and Rob - we wouldn't be here.
Are there any differences, in structuring Open Up compared to a club performance or your Radio 1, show for example?
Yea Radio 1 is a lot harder to do. You have to bear in mind you are following a drive time show in zane Lowe and a lot of listeners are coming back from work. You have to be cool and ease into it. A mistake I learnt early on.
Will the live online broadcast affect your track selection on the night?
Never. I play what I want. It's about the vibe.
Hopefully you've got some surprises in store, to make this Gallery session stand out from the previous Open 100 parties?
It's gonna be a celebration. Regardless it's gonna be special.
One track you will definitely be playing on Friday is…?
"Whites Of Her Eyes"
Who is your breakthrough artist for 2015?
Finally, use three words to describe your forthcoming set?
Poignant, present and prestigious.
