Stop what you're doing and listen to "you and i are the same" the new mix from How To Dress Well
Tom Krell, or How To Dress Well to his fans, is the singer-songwriter behind some of the most tender and emotionally charged tracks in electronic music. His 3rd studio album, What Is This Heart was released earlier this year and quickly garnered a stream of accolades, including "Best New Music" from Pitchfork.
This week he surprised us all by uploaded a new hour long mix, that's turned out to be one of the most impressive performances of the year. Titled you and i are the same, the mix see's Krell utilise everything from his own material to his heavily distorted or 'broken' re-works of the year's R&B hits and even audio samples from angsty teen vloggers to create one of the most heartfelt mixes we've ever heard.
From the opening confused natter from a high school vlogger worrying about what college to apply to, through a truly devastation rework of FKA Twigs "2 Weeks" to Krell's climatic freestyle over Magical Cloudz - "This is Magic" a feeling of uncertainty, desperation and malaise pervades throughout the mix.
Basically this is either the perfect soundtrack for before, during and after a breakup or a musical blanket to hide under during a particularly heavy morning after the night before.
