Nish: Hi Hernan, hope this day finds you well?

Hernan Cattaneo: Really good thanks, leaving Amsterdam after a great show last Saturday at Panama Club for ADE. We did a Hope/Sudbeat showcase with Nick Warren playing B2B for 7 hours, and also had a great line up including Olivier Weiter, Martin Roth, Roger Martinez, Lonya and Graziano Raffa. Best ever ADE show for us!

Your previous visit to Ministry of Sound was last November, any major developments since then?

I've been touring the world nonstop with the exception of May, when I was in the studio recording the Balance Compilation.  A great summer all around, from high profile festivals like Tomorrowland to the coolest like Burning Man – plus clubs in between on all continents. I've also been super busy with Sudbeat as well. We have been releasing some great music, pushing a lot of new artists from all over the globe, new singles every month, two new albums and getting more & more attention from the DJ community.

How did you get involved with Balance 026?

The Balance label and I have been talking about this for long a time, but I had previous commitments.  So we’ve been pushing it for a while until the right time arrived!

What planning was needed in order to decide the tracklist?

It’s a two disc album, the first being slower and highly melodic and the other more clubbier and groovier.  I had two separate lists of about 50 tracks each to start with. Then after the license process you start mixing them to find the best combination possible, or at least the one I liked the most. It’s always painful to cut tracks out, but it’s the only way. Luckily I have a weekly podcast where i can push the stuff I like as well.

Was there any added pressure, coming after Danny Howells and Danny Tenaglia in the Balance series?

Yes, but not only them! Both Dannys are amongst my favourite DJs ever, but all other artists that mixed a Balance album are amongst the best too. So you feel the pressure but know it’s a BIG privilege to be in the same list as Nick Warren , James Holden, Guy J, Deetron , Lee Burridge, Nic Fanciulli, Timo, Henry, Funk dvoid, Radioslave, Joris, Jimmy, SOS, Will Saul, Agoria, Luke Fair, Jozif etc. The Balance list is full of talent!

Which tracks are you most looking forward to testing out in the Box?

I´m playing four hours, so I think most of the CD2 tracks will definitely sound great on Friday.

King Unique also plays this Friday, why did you specifically choose him for this album party?

I’m a big fan from him since day one and always enjoy when we share the bill. We had him on Sudbeat some time ago, and hopefully again soon as well. Every DJ I know loves his sound, so it’s a pleasure to have him on board.

Finally, in Gallery tradition, use three words to describe your forthcoming set?

Hernan is Balance!

Hernan Cattaneo will be headlining The Gallery this Friday 24th October.
