The once-anonymous producer has had a huge year, his track "My Love" topped the UK Singles Chart back in March and went on to become one of the definitive dancefloor tracks of the summer, along with making Route 94 a regular name on the club and festival circuit.

Before he plays alongside his BFF Skream at the Rinse 20th Birthday this Saturday, I caught up with Route, real name Rowan Jones, over email to talk about his long-standing relationship with Rinse, his dreams of becoming a veterinarian  and Skream's love of giant train sets.

How important has Rinse been in shaping your own personal musical influences?

Route 94: I have listened to rinse since I was a kid, I love the fact that there are so many styles on the station, it is great for inspiration.

What is your average day like in the run up to a big event like this?

Probably traveling, probably hung over and desperately seeking WiFi to download new tracks.

Do you find it hard to stay ahead of the curve in this age of digital music being so readily available?

No ... I've always been ahead of the curve, I've never even seen what the other side of the curve is like ..LOL

When did you start making music, how did you get into it and how has the music you make changed since then?

"Started from the bottom now we're here

Started from the bottom now my whole team fuc*ing here

Started from the bottom now we're here

Started from the bottom now the whole team here, ni**a

Started from the bottom now we're here

Started from the bottom now my whole team here, ni**a

Started from the bottom now we're here

Started from the bottom now the whole team fuc*ing here"

- Drake.

You’ve already had a No.1 record at a very early age, what other goals are on your musical bucket list?

I definitely want to do a party on the moon at some point.

Do you prefer producing your own tracks over producing for other artists? How does the process differ?

Yes, I often start things for other people and end off thinking ... 'naa this ones mine' and starting again.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Always answer stupid questions nicely in interviews.

How do you describe what you do to someone who doesn’t know you?

I play music at people and get paid to do it.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a vet, this could still happen as I'm still waiting to grow up.

What’s the coolest thing in your house?

Me!

Tell us something we don’t know about Skream?

He has just added another platform to his incredible train set. It's stunning, it has cost him over 20 grand and fills two rooms of his house.

Route 94, Skream and a whole bunch of their mates will be playing at the Rinse 20th Birthday Party on Saturday 4th October.
