We caught up with Danny Howard ahead of his set at The Gallery on 26th September to discuss Ministry of Sound, Ibiza and what to expect from him in the coming months.
Hi Danny, how are things going for you at the moment?
Hello to you too! Things are all good this end thanks, currently sat doing my admin at my place in Ibiza… can’t really argue with that!
Your previous visit to Ministry of Sound was last October for your ‘Nothing Else Matters’ launch party. Best recollection of the night?
Tough one! It was such a great night being able to promote my own event at such an iconic club and it was great fun going back to back with my mate Jacob Plant for the last two hours, we had a lot of fun!
How has the ‘NEM’ concept developed since then?
Well we’ve had a couple of dates in Manchester and we hosted an NEM stage at Blackpool Rocks last year with Disclosure which was incredible. This year we’ll be back at Blackpool Rocks again with Duke Dumont, but it’s early next year that the NEM concept will really take off when we take the brand on a UK tour with some of the biggest names in the UK dance music scene – watch this space!
Tell us how you got involved with the weekly Pacha residency in Ibiza?
Well, last year I had a monthly residency at Pacha and that went well (I think?! Ha!), the team at Pacha were great and invited me back this summer for a weekly residency! Another pinch myself moment when that call came through!
Apart from the club, where else do you like to visit when in London?
Well, it’s now my home after relocating from Manchester last year but because I’m usually working all the time or travelling, the only place I visit is Gatwick Airport! Now that summer’s nearly done, I’m going to set aside a day to be a tourist… we all have to do it once right?! Buckingham Palace and M&M World are top of the list!
Any new surprises coming up on the Dance Anthems show?
Well, it wouldn’t be a surprise if I told you! You can now catch each week’s Push The Tempo on the Radio 1 Soundcloud page though – that’s something loads of listeners have been asking about for ages! Also we’re launching the R1 Dance Chart in my show very soon (exclusive!!) so get ready for the newest countdown of the biggest tunes around curated by our very own Radio 1 dance family.
Finally in good old Gallery tradition, use 3 words to describe your forthcoming set?
