Derrick May begins 6 Mix residency
Derrick May has been exclusively chosen by 6 music for a 6 Mix Residency. Ahead of Derrick May’s performance at Ministry of Sound on Saturday 11th October, May has been mixing the best of house and techno for these six sessions. May is a master of the decks, and these sessions are a testament to his two decade career which has seen him transform the techno industry.
Derrick May is considered one of the founding fathers of Techno – a genre which has evolved the clubbing scene and the sound of dance music for the past 25 years. In 1987, Derrick May’s released his track “Nude Photo”, which helped kick-start the Detroit techno scene. He followed it by track “Strings of Life” which went on to become one of the most influential house/techno track ever produced. The techno scene then exploded, and May set the stage for techno stars such as Richie Hawtin and Carl Craig to follow.
Following Derrick May in the box will be techno star Kenny Larkin and relative newcomers Maribou State and Kry Wolf. Alongside Derrick May and Kenny Larkin’s classic house and techno, Kry Wolf’s productions vary from house, garage, funk to experimental.
