Every week we ask one of our residents to choose a selection of tracks following a theme. This week, as we're now into the second half of 2014, we've asked our resident DJ Nathan C to tell us his favourite tracks of the year so far. Take it away Nathan!
Toby Green - "Thinking"
NC: Love the energy in this record. The melodies are fun and playful but it still retains that dirty/electro element without getting boring. It packs serious punch and has been working ridiculously well in all of my DJ sets so far this year!
Galantis - "You"
The coming together of two very talented Swedish producers/songwriters in the form of Style of Eye and Christian Karlsson from Miike Snow. Such a unique sound to their records which makes it so stand-out. It manages to sound nostalgic yet absolutely cutting-edge. Perfect combination of sing-a-long vocal hooks and epic hands in the air moments without a single whiff of cheddar. Plenty of interesting remixes too, but the original is always the one at the front of my record bag.
Coldplay - "A Sky Full Of Stars" (Nathan C Bootleg)
The original is one of my favourite pop records so far this year, Coldplay continue to deliver the goods. The day I heard this I absolutely fell in love with it, but knew I needed a version for my DJ sets so I went straight to the studio and nailed a remix of it in 5 hours (quickest track I think I've ever done!) I then played it that weekend right before I handed over to Kaskade in the Box at Ministry and (without any exaggeration) the club genuinely went nuts! It has since had extensive support from Danny Howard on Radio 1, Steve Smart has hammered it on Kiss, plus Thomas Gold, Gareth Emery, Cosmic Gate, Judge Jules and Omnia all giving it loads of club and radio support.
Nero - "Satisfy"
I'm a massive fan of Nero and have been looking forward to a new album from them for some time now. 'Satisfy' doesn't disappoint! I'd really love the opportunity to remix this record and tailor it more towards my DJ sets though, so if Nero, or anyone from their label, is reading this... please get in touch!
Tritonal & Paris Blohm ft. Sterling Fox - "Colors"
Amazing vocal and beautiful melodies in this record. It's epic, but still retains loads of energy, meaning it works perfectly in a club environment. Released on Nicky Romero's label Protocol Recordings at the very beginning of the year, but still appearing in my sets proves the longevity of great music. One of those records I wish I'd made myself!
