Find out what happened when we went to the Hed Kandi XS Opening Party at Es Paradis
Last weekend saw one of the biggest events in this year’s Ibiza calendar, the launch party for Hed Kandi XS at the palatial Es Paradis. Upon entering the venue, the first thing that strikes you is the decor – white columns, twisting staircases, dancing cages and sparkly everything, the perfect hybrid of studio 54 and the last days of Rome.
It’s only 1am – early by Ibizan standards – but the dancefloor is already packed with some of the most glamorous party people on the island. Throughout the night the Hed Kandi residents, Phil Faversham, Ben Santiago and DJ Eibhlin fill the room with a high energy mix of everything from classic 90s house to the ultra modern deep tracks that are sure to take over the island this summer.
The action isn’t just limited to the dancefloor, though, high above the undulating mass, breathtakingly beautiful dancers, swing from lit up cages and strut their stuff on elevated catwalks. A few of the scantily clad girls start a pillow fight, which comes to an explosive conclusion when the pillows burst and glitter rains down on the dancefloor.
By 3am, star of the show, the Lovely Laura takes to the stage to wow the revellers with her saxophone renditions of club classics. Teaming up with Hed Kandi resident Eibhlin, the two whip the crowd into a frenzy with their brassy take on Duke Dumont’s “I Got U”.
After a few more of the mouth-watering mojitos on offer at the bar – strong candidates for best on the island – the night fades into a blur of dancing, deep house and disco.
Hed Kandi XS at ES Paradis truly proved that excess is not a sin.
