Ahead of their set alongside Andy Moor and Super8 & Tab this Friday at the Anjunabeats takeover, the Gallery's Nish Palawan had a quick catch up with Kyau & Albert
Hi there! Hope you're good, what are you up to?
Steven: Yes. Thanks. We're just about to head into the studio.
Your previous visit to Ministry was in November 2013. How was that night for you, plus the boat party on the Thames?
Ralph: London shows are always great! I love Ministry of Sound. My grandmother was born in Lambeth not far from the club. So my mom always says, “If she would know that you're there so often...“.
Steven: The boat party was very nice too. It is not very often that we play on boats and then that view from the boat! Ralph took so many pics from the buildings we passed. As I remember there were also quite a lot people, which we saw at Ministry of Sound later... So very good memories.
How did K&A first get involved with Anjunabeats?
Steven: I think we knew the guys since late 2002. Met them the first time at Amsterdam Dance Event and they signed our track "Velvet Morning" to them in 2003.
Ralph: They also brought A&B to Germany for the the first time in 2004.
Favourite track on the label, from an artist other than K&A?
Ralph: A very hard question! Anjunabeats has such high quality releases. Spontaneously I would say "Sun & Moon", which we still play in our sets – but right now as a DJ mashup with the version from the 'Acoustic' album. A classic I loved so much is "Air For Life".
Steven: Sill one of my favourites is Arty & Mat Zo "Rebound", but there are so many other great tracks in the Anjunabeats discography. Truely there has never been a Kyau & Albert set without an Anjunabeats track. For example at the moment we're playing "Big Ben" in pretty much every set..
Why is The Box perfect for the Anjunabeats sound?
Steven: The sound is just so great!
What do you most respect about Andy Moor and Super8 & Tab – who play alongside you on Friday?
Ralph: We've already known all three of them for a very long time. Last time we played with Super8 & Tab was for NYE, where we had a real nice chat backstage.
Steven: Outside of the music I was very impressed by Andy's magic tricks. I respect them a lot and I'm really looking forward to seeing them again this Friday!
What's the one tune you will definitely be playing this weekend?
Ralph: We are quite spontaneous with our sets, but definitely we're playing our new single "Are You One Of Us" and of course a lot of Anjunabeats tracks.
Finally use three words to describe your forthcoming set?
Ralph: Kyau and Albert!
Steven: Ralph and Steven!
Don't miss out on seeing Andy Moore, Super8 & Tab and Kyau & Albert tear up the Anjunabeats takeover this Friday.
