Gifted is back at Ministry of Sound to take over 103 on Saturday 3rd September and what better way to warm things up than with a house and techno mix from Gifted resident Lewi Five 0. Lewi is no stranger to the London Club scene and will have 103 rocking with his 3 deck madness and efx in abundance!

LEWI FIVE 0 - I BLAME THE PARENTS! by Lewi Five 0

Lewi Five O
After an employment transition from Policeman to DJ, Lewi Five 0 already makes for an interesting personality. Conventional, safe & in some ways predictable are the emblematic characteristics found in personalities such as this, yet is that what drove him to succeed in becoming a DJ & person that defies all of these things?
He is calm, focused & level headed, but he possesses an incredibly intense energetic style behind the decks, pushing through tunes in the house & techno genres, he describes it as “Music you can’t sit down to”. Clearly keen to keep the partyers on their toes & arms in the air, you can feel the flare & individual ambience that he brings to his fast-paced sets.

Kris Menace

Regarded as one of the finest producers and DJ’s of his time, Kris Menace is a man who has Support from the likes of Aeroplane, Sasha and Pete Tong. It’s this perfect balance of underground credibility and widespread accessibility that has seen him able to carve a niche for himself as a hugely respected figure in electronic music and maybe one of the busiest remixers alive. Even the likes of Depeche Mode, Royksopp, Booka Shade, Underworld, Moby and Air as just some of the acts that have demanded his remix talents. As an A&R and label boss he’s known for his two great labels, Compuphonic and of course, Work It Baby. In 2010, Kris collaborated with KoweSix to create the Project “Black Van” which became Beatport nominated as Nu-Disco Track of the Year and therefore one of the most downloaded Nu-Disco Tracks of 2010. His Sets are enchanting and deeply engrossing and really are a rare treat.

DiskJokke Live Jan 2011 by diskJokke

DiskJokke / Bio

Following the success of Lindstrøm and Prins Thomas comes diskJokke (a.k.a. Joachim Dyrdahl) the latest in a string of exciting and innovative artists hailing from the respected Oslo electronica scene.

diskJokke was discovered by Oslo-Disco luminary Prins Thomas, who immediately signed three tunes to his Full Pupp label (released on two 12” singles). Almost simultaneously in Germany, M.A.N.D.Y and the Get Physical gang signed diskJokke for five other tunes (spread on two 12” singles) to their new Get Physical sub label, Kindisch. Following these releases, word quickly spread about diskJokke’s quirky, spaced-out and dubby mixture of house, Italo and disco, and he was soon asked to remix tunes for a number of artists, including Lindstrøm, Foals, Lykke Li and Bloc Party.

For years diskJokke has been closely connected to Norway’s premiere club night, Sunkissed, where he is a resident DJ with G-HA, Olanskii and VinnyVillbass. He is part of the Oslo scene that has evolved around Sunkissed, as well as smaller hotspots Nomaden and The Villa, with Rune Lindbæk, Linstrøm, Prins Thomas and Todd Terje. Smalltown Supersound picked up diskJokke when he appeared on the Sunkissed compilation in 2008. They immediately knew that his music was a perfect match for the label.

diskJokke’s debut release, Staying In, was a tripped out mastodon of an album. It was the sound of Norwegian disco taken to its farthest, futuristic limits. It’s epic, groovy, cinematic, poppy and most of all melodic. But at the same time, it is melancholic, and as the title suggests, staying inside on dark winter and autumn nights to make music certainly reflects the mood of the record.

Not long after he released a 7” edit of now classic track Rosenrød with Moshi Moshi, and that was quickly followed with a remix compilation of his best rerubs from 2008 / 2009 on the Smalltown label. Through Winter 2009 / Spring 2010, there were remixes for Crystal Castles, Daniel Wang, Tim Deluxe, Crystal Fighters, Monarchy, Penguin Prison, The xx, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Coldplay / A-ha / Mew supergroup Apparatjik.

Jokke has played all over the world entertaining crowds in Brazil, Beijing, New York, Jakarta, Moscow and Istanbul under his various guises as a DJ, with his laptop live set and now and again with his live band. June 2010 saw the worldwide release of his second album proper, En Fin Tid to critical acclaim, a mix for Radio 1’s Annie Nightingale and a number of other releases including an excellent collaboration with DJ Strangefruit entitled The Sjukt. The coming year will include a new downtempo record based on the one-off live show he did with an Indonesian gamelan orchestra this summer, a new remix compilation and a variety of 12“s including a collaboration with Holy Fuck.

Future Disco - Neon Lights

Future Disco continue to creep further into the conscious heart of the discerning music lover as it moves onto its fourth episode in the award-winning defining series with ‘Neon Nights’.

In a time where the compilation market is saturated and stale, Future Disco has achieved a cult following across the worlds of music and fashion over its three years of releases. Awarded iTunes album of the year 2009, they have crafted a winning formula exploring the boundaries of contemporary house and disco music achieved through each creative mix.

The fourth edition ‘Neon nights’ is more mystifying and seductive than its older siblings, giving heavy nods to the inspirational eras of the 80’s and early nineties as well as the glamour of New York, handpicking a handful of current East coast stars including Escort, Jacques Renault, Storm Queen and Holy Ghost.

Moving forward from the earlier investigation of the funk of the 70s, Future Disco illustrates a present desire for the sounds of the last two decades. Synth lines and pianos are the order of the day as sultry boogie and early dance beats are thrown into the spotlight.

Some old hands join new faces for ‘Neon Nights’, with leading figures Hot Chip, The Revenge and 2020Soundsystem laid alongside exclusive tracks from Mario Basanov and Bonar Bradberry, both tipped for big things in 2011. Future Disco was one of the first to give recognition to global success stories such as Tensnake and Aeroplane and continues to discover new talents and trends through each episode.

Standout tracks appear from Storm Queen ‘Look Right Through’, an exclusive to Future Disco from Morgan Geist of Metro Area and the glamorous Midnight Magic ‘Beam Me up (Jacques Renault remix)’, whose peak disco sound has found love from everyone from Erol Alkan to Optimo and Faze Action.

Reinventing the meaning of a disco anthem, ‘She’s Bad’ from Bad Rabbits made a big impact earlier this summer on limited release on (one half of Wolf + Lamb) Gadi Mizrahi’s Double Standard records, and appears as a treat for those yet to discover it. Kaine feat Kathy Diamond’s Balearic inspired ‘Love Saves The Day’ brings the closing moments to life with a fusion of its original and the sublime Soul Clap remix, a great conclusion to this seamless mix of musical fruits.

Since the inception of Future Disco, the audience for its sound has spread to the far reaches of the globe, with artists such as Wolf + Lamb in New York, Soul Clap in Boston and The Revenge in the UK enjoying praise from all camps of musical persuasion. As the sound moves from the back room to the main dancefloor, Future Disco has forged a global identity, identifying and defining these musical trends.

The Future Disco global series of events continues to broaden their horizons, completing a strong summer residency at Space in Ibiza, a special ADE event in Amsterdam and continuing bi-monthly at London’s notorious Ministry Of Sound 103, Events in Singapore, Dubai, Belfast and many others are penned for 2011 with a world tour scheduled to coincide with this album release.

Carefully re-edited and mixed by Sean Brosnan, each episode comes into creation through the skilled cutting, splicing, extension and arrangement of some of the finest hand-picked records from the past, present and future, resulting in a completely unique mix. Released on Needwant records, an imprint that has established itself as a pioneer of cutting edge house and disco grooves and will be showcasing a wonderful array of new talent in 2011.

Pursuing more of an uptempo house vibe in this edition, Future Disco still taps firmly at the heart of disco and its fusion with contemporary underground dancefloor music.
