After a massive 2012, Ministry of Sound club is currently closed until Friday 25th January for its annual refurbishment while it undergoes improvements to the sound system, an upgrade to the lighting and some structural adaptations - all so that we can make sure that we give you even better nights out in 2013, which is set to be our biggest and best year to date!

Originally conceived with influences from New York’s Paradise Garage, Ministry of Sound has had numerous makeovers over the years that have transformed it from the original, gritty disused bus shelter that it was prior to opening on 21st September 1991 to the venue that it is today – one of the best clubs in the world, with award-winning sound, lighting and production keeping us at the forefront of technology.

We're continuing to invest heavily in improving the club, taking into account all customer feedback that we have received over the past year, the focus being to implement all suggestions and ideas put forward by your lovely selves!

Without giving too much away, this month will see walls being knocked down, balconies moved, DJ booths lowered and rearranged, and even better sound, production and lighting put into place! All will be revealed on the re-launch weekend, kicking off with Gallery Presents Arty on 25th January and Saturday Sessions presents Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike on 26th January.

To warm you up for our opening weekend, here are some fun and interesting facts about our legendary sound system. which will continue to be the mainstay of the club in 2013:

- In 2008 the club upgraded to a Martin Audio Sound system in the Box. The Martin Audio team that designed it comprised of over 20 sound engineers and industry professionals
- In 2009 the Box was fitted with a sprung dance floor, meaning the bass produces a full body induction straight through your legs for a physical 360 sound effect
- An upgrade by Martin Audio in 2010 led to the creation of one of the most powerful and responsive subwoofers in the world. The Sub speakers in the Box are rarely run over 32% of their full capacity - if they were pushed to 100% it would cause a person to pass out! The sound system is capable of delivering 152 plus decibels of sound, which is louder than  a jet engine at take off
- In 2010, 2011, and 2012 Ministry of Sound won the to the Best Club Sound System Design at the International Dance Music Awards (IDMA); the coveted award has led the system to be widely acclaimed as the best sound system in the world

MINISTRY OF SOUND PARTNER WITH NISSAN TO CREATE THE JUKE BOX

Here at Ministry of Sound we're delighted to announce that we've partnered with Nissan to create the world’s ultimate mobile sound system – the Juke Box. Louder than a jumbo jet in take-off, the technical know-how for the Juke Box comes from sound experts Martin Audio, who designed and built the current system in The Box – the main room at our London home.

In 1991 Justin Berkmann, one of the club's founders (alongside James Palumbo and Humphrey Waterhouse), created a club never seen before in Europe; where the music and sound system came first. Together they created the ultimate club sound system - The Box - a 5 sided room within a room that was acoustically perfect, and is still considered today to be one of the best sound systems in the world.

Building on the Ministry of Sound ethos of ‘creating the moments people live for’, together with Nissan we turned to Martin Audio – makers of our current Box system – to create a 150 decibel, 18,900W sound system, which is completely self-sufficient in terms of power and production. Thanks to its custom-built 19 kilowatt rig, the Juke Box’s sound system fits into a standard Nissan Juke. A set of custom-made cabinets and enclosures housing two 18” powered sub units and the same Mid Hi enclosures that are used at Ministry of Sound enable exceptionally loud output without compromising on sound quality.

The Juke Box also features an integrated radio studio, allowing anything played on the system to be captured for broadcast via our digital radio app.

The Juke Box makes it debut today at Le Mans in the drivers’ parade at the start of the world-famous 24 hour endurance race and will tour the three-day event, providing pop-up parties for music fans and petrol heads alike. The Nissan Juke Box transforms into a fully-functioning PA system, complete with DJ booth and ambient lighting making it the perfect touring party venue and proving that motor sport and music is a match made in heaven. The mobile festivities at Le Mans will be hosted by some of our headline DJs, running long into the night, keeping race-goers entertained.

But don't just take our word for just how incredible the Juke Box is - take a look below at the first in a 2-part webisode below created to coincide with the Juke’s debut at Le Mans, giving you a behind the scenes look at the Juke Box coming to life, from invention through to realisation.

And that's not all - to mark the Juke Box’s summer tour across Europe, from next week we're launching the “Nissan Juke Box Sessions” on Ministry of Sound Radio, which will be broadcast every fortnight on Mondays from 5pm to 7pm GMT.

The show will feature a series of exclusive DJ sets recorded at Juke Box events taking place across Europe throughout the summer.

Stay tuned because we'll be bringing you more on the Juke Box plus exclusive content from Le Mans this weekend very soon - follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ to keep up with all the action!
