SAVEMOSCLUB: UPDATE

UPDATE: The hearing on 26 February has been deferred as the Mayor, Boris Johnson, wants to allow further time for negotiations between Ministry of Sound and the developer, Oakmayne. This decision shows that he recognises Ministry of Sound's cultural and economic value to London and understands that the proposed development genuinely threatens our future. As we have always said, we are happy to work with the developer on a solution that would allow both parties to co-exist.

Many thanks to everyone who has supported us so far. We'll continue to keep you posted.

#SAVEMOSCLUB: PLEASE HELP SAVE MINISTRY OF SOUND FROM THREAT OF CLOSURE

In 2009 we became aware of plans to build a 41-storey residential tower block 10 metres from the front gate of Ministry of Sound. If this building goes ahead and the new residents complain about noise from our club, we could lose our licence and be forced to close.

We fought the application tooth and nail for two years - and finally, in October 2011, Southwark’s planning committee saw sense and rejected it unanimously.

However, the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has called in the application, and on 26th February 2013 he will whether to approve this planning application.

We still have a massive fight on our hands to save Ministry of Sound, and need your help to show Boris why he should #savemosclub.

SAVE OUR CLUB 2012: THE FIGHT GOES ON!

In 2011, Ministry of Sound fought and won the battle to Save Our Club. In 2012, we need your help again to win the war...

London Mayor Boris Johnson is about to grant planning permission for luxury flats opposite Ministry of Sound. If built, these will force our iconic 20 year old club to close, with the loss of hundreds of jobs.

Last year, some of the world’s biggest DJs and musicians, as well as over 26,000 people, joined our campaign to let Southwark Council know that these plans would destroy a global institution. We were delighted and thought our future was secured when Southwark Council’s Planning Committee voted overwhelmingly to reject the plans. But now the developer has convinced Boris Johnson to “call in” the application and hopes to overturn this democratic decision.

DON'T LET BORIS SHUT US DOWN!!!

2012 is the year of the London Elections. This year above all the Mayor has reason to listen to Londoners. Together we can show Boris that this city will not be the same without Ministry of Sound and there are major flaws with this development.

We did it! Southwark Council’s planning committee has refused the planning application for the Oakmayne tower block. This means that the scheme cannot proceed without major changes. Ministry of Sound is working towards a new vision for the site that addresses the needs of the Elephant & Castle community whilst protecting the jobs of our 200 employees and the future of our club, record label, events and media businesses.

Lohan Presencer, CEO Ministry of Sound Group, said:

“A huge thank you to the 26,000 plus people who signed the petition. Last night the Planning Committee showed why local democracy matters to this country.”
