With new dates coming up at our DJ Academy, plus our 19th birthday having just passed, we thought it was high time to catch up with a man who has been a part of Ministry of Sound - both the club and the DJ Academy - from the very beginning.
To say that Jazzy M has been one of the main men responsible for the UK’s phenomenon that we call house music is no understatement. Grooverider has been known to proclaim Jazzy M 'The Godfather of House' – a statement that accurately describes Jazzy’s contribution to the music industry.
Radio guru and DJ for over 30 years, the very first person to ever play at Ministry of Sound on its opening night in 1991 and longtime resident at the club, recording artist, record label and studio owner...the list goes on and on, but there aren't enough words or hours in the day to do full justice to just how many strings Jazzy has to his bow! During his stellar career he's worked with everyone from Faithless to Paul Weller, played in over 55 countries and been a fountain of both knowledge and inspiration for beginner and established DJs alike at the Academy.
We managed to get him to take some rare time out from hectic schedule to talk us through that very first set at the club, his favourite memories from his residency, why teaching at the Academy gives him such a buzz, his tips for making it to the top and his thoughts on the past, present and future of the dance music industry.
Jazzy's also done an exclusive mix just for us to ease away those autumn blues and take you into the new season in style...wrap your ears around this!
