Good morning, had a good day so far?
Good morning to you, I have just been for lunch at Itaca beach bar in San Antonio. I’m here with my family now for the summer.
You will be playing the Gallery on Friday 13th. What is your unluckiest event when Djing?
Oh yes I forgot its Friday 13th, I’m quite superstitious too! The unluckiest is when the Traktor application closed unexpectedly. There’s really nothing you can do, just restart the laptop and keep fingers crossed. Although this happened to me twice in one set, in Liverpool last year!
With a mega three hour set, do you approach this any differently?
In my opinion three hours should be a normal DJ set, but yes - a longer set gives the opportunity to create a great musical journey. I don’t prepare any differently, I just look forward to not having to cram lots of good music into a short period of time.
Ministry of Sound is renowned globally. What are your fondest memories?
I consider MOS an icon in the clubbing world and music industry. I remember my very first time entering MOS in London as a clubber around 20 years ago and thinking maybe one day I'll play here! Et Voila, here I am…
With the recent release of yet more gadgets, the debate has been re-ignited about whether modern technology is taking the skill out of DJing. What is your view?
I like DJing with turntables more then CD. DJing with turntable makes you feel you are a real DJ. Technology just helps a good DJ to create more and be lighter during travelling. But as all technology, it needs to be used well- and in a creative way.
How is your ‘Come Together’ night going at Space in Ibiza?
For the first year and the first few weeks, the Come Together party has been great, better than all our expectations. Our support on the terrace will complete the idea of a festival in Space, which is one of the appealing concepts that drew me to the night in the first place. I think Ibiza has created a new night that will last a long time.
What elements of your acclaimed ‘Meganite’ have you lent to the new night?
The formula is the same, quality new house and techno music. Nothing form the radio, pop chart or old. Music for real Ibiza clubbers and of course the after parties!
Your switch to a more eclectic style was met with raised eyebrows in some circles. Did this have an adverse effect on your morale or progression?
I'm pleased for what I did and I love more what I am doing now. I feel like a good chef in a quality restaurant, making more than a super commercial ‘Big Mac’ in McDonalds…
What does the rest of 2010 hold musically?
I like new challenges and I like to always push myself to experiment with new styles. I can't do it any differently, it is not in my vision of life style. I want to keep pushing the music from my album ‘2010’ and all the new mixes coming out. Very excited about these!
And finally, three words to describe your forthcoming Gallery set?
Sexy-Energetic-Groovy.
Mauro Picotto is playing The Gallery this Friday, tickets are on sale now
